Adult ballet
It’s Never Too Late To Dance!
In 2011 I was approached by a lovely lady who had studied ballet throughout her childhood and had yearned during her adult years to return to the ballet studio.
Inspired by the “Elders of Sadlers Wells” in London who give the more mature adult the chance to dance and fulfill a creative need she asked if I would be interested in creating something similar in Potten End.
With some trepidation but a lot of enthusiasm together we created the “Elderflowers” ballet class for women and men, currently ranging from 41 to 75 years. Some of the members studied ballet as children, others come to us with no experience, but we all share the same desire to express ourselves through music and movement, and our love of dance.
We stretch and lengthen our bodies, work on posture, practice our exercises at the barre (being careful to work within our bodies limitations) and then move to the centre to lose ourselves in the joy of moving to inspirational music, as we create together the current dance I have choreographed for the “Elderflowers”.
” It’s wonderful to be dancing again “
” A dream has come true “
” It’s the highlight of my week “
…… just some of the comments I hear at the end of class, but it is also one of the highlights of my week – Sharing our passion for music and dance together! – Juliet Tschaikowsky
